With a picturesque setting, adjacent to both mountains and sea, Portals Nous, and is part of the larger municipal district of Calvia on the south west coast of Majorca. The distance between Portal Nous and the capital city of Palma, is minimal at just under 10 km. Added to this, a distance of just over 16km from the Son Sant Joan International Airport, and there really is as little time spent travelling between destinations as one could possibly wish.

Despite the extremely close proximity of Portals Nous to Palma, its secluded location mean public transport links remain primitive. It is in view of this that the hiring of a taxi or private car service is highly recommended. The aforementioned journey distance from the airport to Portals Nous is small. As one leaves the airport, the MA19 highway takes you towards Palma. Rather then entering into the city (and adding time to the journey), it is recommended that you take the MA20 road which arcs around the city thus reducing traffic congestion. This is followed by the MA1 that takes you to within a nominal distance of the area itself. Whilst Portals Nous lies close to the islands capital city, it manages to retain its distinct feel and has very much its own identity. Indeed, what makes the area unique in this respect, is its contrast in scenery to that of neighbouring Palma and Magaluf. This invariably brings about its own advantages!

One of the greatest appeals held by Portals Nous invariably centres upon its closeness to those major tourist resorts, yet at the same time, its seclusion and remoteness from the hustle and bustle that one would associate with these.

This seemingly paradoxical state of affairs allows the visitor to experience the vibe and energy of neighbouring Magaluf and Palma, yet to also appreciate the more natural, holistic aspect of the island at Portals Nous. Such contrasts are less then 30 minutes travelling time from one another.

As far as Portals Nous itself is concerned, the resort is well endowed with an array of attractions on offer to the visitor. Perhaps the best known of these is the Royal Bendinat golf course that has been described as one of the finest in Spain. Consisting of 18 holes and beautifully set within the mountains overlooking the coast, this challenging course can become very popular during peak season.

For those that wish to add some class into their holiday, the Puerto Portals is located nearby and has rapidly become a marina of note. The excellent range of social attractions such as bars and restaurants contained within a romantic and tranquil setting all conspire to attract notable famous personalities throughout the year.

However, if total relaxation is all you desire, then the Portal Nous area of the island is blessed with a good number of beaches ranging from the small, quiet inlets to the more crowded varieties most of which offer a range of water sports. All of this, and not to mention the cultural blessings that can be discovered in Palma!

All things considered, Portals Nous offers the visitor a wide range of attractions in a peaceful and relaxing environment. It is quite clear therefore, that for this reason the area would hold little appeal to the younger generation whose sole desire is to immerse themselves constantly in the nightlife thrills of nearby Magaluf.

These groups aside however, the area is ideally suited for retired couples and families with young children who may simply wish to enjoy a tranquil break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, whilst never being far from the many attractions that Mallorca has to offer.
