The municipal district and small residential town of Campos, is situated almost midway between the towns of Llucmayor and Santanyķ in the south east corner of the island, approximately 40km or 25 miles east of the capital Palma. Although Campos is primarily a residential town, and is therefore fairly well served by the islands' bus service, it has to be said that using public transport from the Son Sant Joan International airport would certainly make for a very long and difficult transfer, so we would suggest that anyone considering a holiday here make provision to either collect a pre-booked hire car from the airport, or be prepared to engage the services of one of the many local taxi drivers awaiting outside of the arrivals hall. At this point we should mention that as a rule, taxis do not normally carry child seats, so very small children will have to sit on their parents knees for the journey. If this is a cause for concern, we strongly recommend that you make arrangements for a pre-booked taxi to be waiting for you, and clearly specify at the time of booking that a child seat is needed for the journey. Pre-booked taxis are often a little more expensive, although as with all things in life, you only get what you pay for.
For those visitors who prefer to drive, once you've left the main PM19 motorway and joined the C717 heading
eastward, the route is fairly straightforward, although it has to be said not especially scenic.
However, once you are in the town, and have settled in to your accommodation, the journey back into Palma for shopping or
sightseeing, is then fairly easy by public transport. Throughout the year the IB33 bus which is operated by Transunion
Mallorca sl, runs into the capital several times each day. Details of this service can be found at their
web site: The south east corner of the island is now regarded as being the centre of the Majorcan dairy industry, and visitors to the area often comment on the large number of windmills which are again being put into use driving water supply pumps. A Majorcan specialty that is produced in the town is the Piris cheese, which is allowed to mature in a mixture of brine and paprika for approximately 3 months before it is ready eat. Campos still remains primarily a residential town, and few concessions are made to the small number of tourists who do make it here. These visitors are generally independent travellers who are looking to escape the commercialism that has dominated much of the island, and who use the town as a convenient base to further explore the south east coast and in particular the unspoilt beaches of Sa Rąpita and Es Trenc. If you've never visited Majorca before, the Es Trenc beach is a totally undeveloped 3km long stretch of coast, that is famed for its beautiful fine white sands, and crystal clear waters, which in recent years has become particularly popular with nudists. Behind Es Trenc a channel then leads to the Es Salobar wetlands, which is second is size only to the Parc Natural de s'Albufera on the north coast of the island between the resorts of Alcudia and Playa de Muro.
