Attractions and AmenitiesBecause of its extraordinary ecological value to the island, the area around Cala Mondrago was declared a Natural Park in 1992, and has now been afforded special protection from future commercial development by the local council. So the limited development you see today is likely to remain unchanged for the foreseeable future.Beyond the facilities provided by the small number of hotels, there are no bars, restaurants, or other evening entertainment venues in the town, so visitors should really consider car hire before arriving in the resort. If you do have access to your own transport, and can get out of the village, the Sunday morning market in the nearby town of Felanitx is one of the best in Majorca and well worth a visit. This is a good place to pick up some local pottery, but be prepared to haggle for the best bargains. Other markets are held locally at Santanyi every Wednesday and Saturday morning.
The Majorca Tourist Information Service (OIT - Oficines d'Informacio Turistica de Mallorca) also has offices at Santanyi, which is the administrative centre for the south east of the island.
