There is plenty to do in the area and one of the most beautiful walks on the island is the route from Banyalbufar to the far-flung Port des Canonge. A lovely ramble down to this peaceful fishing bay, the route starts off leading downhill through shaded pine forests. Further on, the path is flanked by bizarre rock formations and affords magnificent views of the coast before winding through to Port des Canonge, well worth visiting for its tiny gravel beaches, and bars and cafes.

An essential for any tourist is a visit to "Torre de ses Animes" a huge tower situated just outside Banyalbufar village towards Estellencs. This impressive structure overlooks the sea and was built to protect the village from pirate attacks. Today it is one of the most visited historic buildings on the island, with sunsets that truly take the breath away. The beach below is also well worth a visit but is accessible only by way of a steep stone staircase.

Despite its small size the village is well served by hotels and there are 190 rooms available across four hotels: Sa Baronia, Sa Coma, Mado Paula and Mar i Vent. For those on a budget, the Hostal Busquets on the main street of Banyalbufar also offers simple but cheap accommodation, although there are only five rooms available.

The area is also a centre of the local Majorcan cuisine and Sa Baronía, an old mansion located in the centre of the community, also provides delicious platefuls of traditional cooking. This beautiful old residence also boasts an impressive interior courtyard and defence tower that date from the 17th Century.

The Bellavista café is also well worth a visit and offers beautiful views right across the coast. For a special occasion the Son Tomás restaurant is rightly famed for its magnificent seafood.

Along with Majorca’s other traditional communities, Banyalbufar celebrates several fiestas, the most important of which, on the 8th of September, commemorates the Nativity of Our Lady. Several events take place during a week of enthusiastic celebrations.
